Mary Flinn, a senior and founding editor of Blackbird, was honored as one of the 2016 Women in the Arts recipients at a luncheon held at the University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts on March 10, 2016.
Flinn’s community affiliation with the VCU Department of English MFA program spans more than thirty years. Her work as a senior editor and copublisher of Blackbird: an online journal of literature and the arts, is in its fifteenth year.
Flinn continues to work fiercely and generously to support literature and the arts regionally, nationally, and internationally, both as an editor and through her curation and sponsorship of the Poetic Principles readings at the Library of Virginia.
The full list of honorees follows, including VCU Professor Emerita Elizabeth King, who graciously contributed to the inaugural issue of Blackbird in 2002 and who remains a friend and supporter of the journal: Pamela Reynolds, McLean Jesse, Melissa Burgess, Mary Flinn, Elizabeth King, Page Bond, Robyn O’Neill, and Eva Rocha.
