Your gift is important to us and will enable the Department of English to recruit bright and promising students, in a time when the rising costs of university education can be a deterrent. We in the faculty are very excited at the prospects ahead, and grateful for the generosity of the donors.


The Claudia Emerson Scholarship, funded by colleagues, friends and family of the late and beloved, Pulitzer Prize winning faculty member, is awarded to continuing MFA students in the poetry or creative nonfiction program in the Department of English. This scholarship fund started making annual awards in 2015.

The Craig Sirles MA in English Scholarship, funded by an alumnus of the Department of English, is awarded to a first year graduate student engaged in literary study who is earning their Master of Arts in English. This scholarship fund started making annual awards in the fall of 2016.

The Dr. L. Terry Oggel Scholarship, funded by colleagues, friends and family of the current faculty member, honors his long-standing commitment to the Department and to MA program. This scholarship is awarded to a student in good standing pursuing a Master of Arts in English. This scholarship started making annual awards in the fall of 2017.
