Claudia Emerson Scholarship
Craig Sirles MA in English Scholarship
Dr. L. Terry Oggel Scholarship

Your gift is important to us and will enable the Department of English to recruit bright and promising students, in a time when the rising costs of university education can be a deterrent. We in the faculty are very excited at the prospects ahead, and grateful for the generosity of the donors.

The Claudia Emerson Scholarship, funded by colleagues, friends and family of the late and beloved, Pulitzer Prize winning faculty member, will be awarded to students in the poetry or creative nonfiction program in the Department of English. This scholarship fund started making annual awards in 2015.

The Craig Sirles MA in English Scholarship, funded by an alumnus of the Department of English, will be awarded to a first year graduate student engaged in literary study who is earning their Master of Arts in English. This scholarship fund will start making annual awards in the fall of 2016.

The Dr. L. Terry Oggel Scholarship, funded by colleagues, friends and family of the current faculty member, honors his long-standing commitment to the Department and to MA program. This scholarship will be awarded to a student in good standing pursuing a Master of Arts in English. This scholarship fund will start making annual awards in the fall of 2017.

British Virginia

British Virginia logo: simply the words

British Virginia is a VCU-hosted series of scholarly editions of documents touching on the colony. These texts range from the 16th and 17th-century literature of English exploration to the 19th-century writing of loyalists and other Virginians who continued to identify with Great Britain. Editions appear principally in digital form, freely downloadable.
